NEET UG Row:  Students protested against purported irregularities in the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) and NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Sunday, amid the controversy surrounding the NEET paper and numerous national and state-level exam cancellations and postponements.

The protesting students held posters that said "Scrap NTA" and "NTA Must Go," calling for the National Testing Agency—the organisation that administers the NEET—to be held accountable.

The demonstrators called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan as well as an investigation of the NEET UG exam's mishandling, overseen by the Supreme Court.

On July 5, however, the Centre reaffirmed its position on the NEET-UG dispute and told the Supreme Court that it had no plans to postpone the test or administer it again. It was emphasised that the exam did not contain any significant anomalies.

In a document filed with the Supreme Court, which will consider appeals related to the matter on Monday, the Centre claimed that eliminating the 2024 test would "seriously jeopardise" the prospects of thousands of sincere applicants who took it.

It said that such a step would be illogical in the absence of evidence of a significant breach of confidentially in the examination.

The NTA administered the highly competitive NEET-UG 2024 admission exam for undergraduate medical programs on May 5 to almost 24 lakh prospective medical students. The results were supposed to be released on June 14, but they weren't until June 4. This is likely because the answer papers were assessed earlier.
