Nepal on Friday rejected claims that Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists had entered Bihar via Kathmandu. Nepal clarified that the suspects had already left the country for Malaysia. This statement came a day after the Bihar Police Headquarters issued a statewide high alert based on intelligence inputs about the entry of JeM terrorists in the poll-bound state through Nepal.

According to an India Today report citing Nepal Police, the Immigration Department and the Kathmandu Airport Authority, the three suspects identified as Hasnain Ali, a resident of Rawalpindi, Adil Hussain of Umarkot and Mohammad Usman of Bahawalpur, flew from the country to Kuala Lumpur in three different flights at different times.

Nepal Immigration spokesperson Tikaram Dhakal said that Hasnain Ali and Adil Hussain arrived in Nepal on August 8 on Pakistani passports, while Mohammad Usman entered the country on August 10. Ali and Hussain flew from Kathmandu to Kuala Lumpur on August 15, while Usman left the country on August 24, the report stated, citing authorities.

However, the police did not confirm whether the three suspects entered Bihar during their time in Nepal. Earlier, on August 28, the Bihar Police Headquarters issued a statewide high alert of possible infiltration of three terrorists in Bihar through Nepal.

The Bihar Police circulated their names, photographs and passport details to border districts. With the Bihar Assembly Elections approaching, the security agencies are put on high alert over the possibility of a terror strike in the poll-bound state.

Bihar shares a 729-kilometre-long open border with Nepal, making it a major infiltration spot. Additionally, the Bangladesh Border is approximately 20 kilometres away from the Kishanganj district, increasing the risk of possible infiltration.

According to the sources, senior officials have been briefed on the situation and asked to act promptly against any suspicious activity. Following intelligence reports, all district intelligence units are continuously monitoring the situation.
