Nepal Gen Z protest: As protests turn violent in Nepal over a ban on social media platforms, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has issued an alert along the India-Nepal border, news agency ANI quoted top sources as saying.

The country's guarding force along the Nepal border, the SSB, has intensified vigilance and is closely monitoring the situation to prevent any spillover of unrest into Indian territory.

ANI quoted officials saying, "An alert has been issued on the India-Nepal border, considering a protest in Nepal. Sashastra Seema Bal is keeping a close watch on the development."

The officials noted that the alert is 'preventive in nature', and the situation remains under control for now. According to officials, the force has made adequate deployment at the border, and strict checks have been implemented at several outposts.

The SSB has also ramped up coordination with the local administration to ensure the smooth movement of people while maintaining security.

The India-Nepal border, stretching over 1,751 km is open across states including Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Sikkim. It allows unrestricted movement for the citizens of both countries.

Although the arrangement fosters close socio-economic and cultural ties, there are certain challenges too that require heightened security. Therefore, in the event of political unrest in the past, border alerts have been issued.

Such an alert was also issued during the 2015 Madhesi protests, which had affected trade and cross-border movement. The SSB, which is one of India’s Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), has a strength of over 90,000 personnel.

It continues to keep strict surveillance and sends regular reports to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). When required, the SSB's role expands to counter-insurgency and internal security duties apart from border guarding.
