Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday clarified his earlier remark about retirement, which was widely seen as a veiled reference to PM Modi.
While addressing a press conference, Bhagwat said that he was quoting a humorous remark by a senior RSS leader when he had said that one should think of retirement when someone gives them a ceremonial shawl.
He clarified that he never said he would or that someone else should retire at 75 years of age. He said, "I was quoting a witticism by a senior Sangh leader about how when someone gives you a ceremonial shawl at 75, you should think of retirement."
"I never said I will or someone else should retire", he added.

Bhagwat on demographic change
The RSS chief spoke about a slew of issues in the country during the press conference. On the question of demographic change, Bhagwat cited experts and said that communities having a birth rate of less than three slowly go extinct.
He said that every couple should've three children. "Doctors have told me that marrying at the right age and having three children ensures that both the parents and children remain healthy. Children in homes with three siblings also learn ego management and there is no disturbance in their family life in the future. This is what doctors have said... Our country's population recommends a birth rate of 2.1, which is fine as an average, but you can never have 0.1 of a child. In math, 2.1 becomes 2, but when it comes to births, after two, it has to be three," the Bhagwat said.
