Bengaluru-Mangaluru Expressway: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on Sunday announced that it is building a new expressway to connect Bengaluru and Mangaluru, two mega cities of Karnataka. The ministry stated that the cities will be connected via Hassan, adding that the expressway will not only provide convenience to the residents of these cities, but it will also provide a boost to the economic activities.

While providing details, the ministry said that the expressway is likely to reduce the time travel between these two cities by 7 to 8 hours. It further stated that the ambitious project has been jointly undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Karnataka Public Works Department.

The main aim of the expressway will be to decongest the traffic in the outer regions of Bengaluru as it will cover a total distance of 335 km and will consist of four to six lanes. Due to the width and added lanes, it will significantly reduce the travel time between these cities.

However, the construction of the expressway between Bengaluru and Mangaluru will is scheduled to begin in 2028 and is expected to be completed in few months. The officials stated that the expressway will be a game-changer for the transportation sector of the state.

Currently, the journey between these two cities is very hectic and time-consuming. The journey is tough especially during the monsoon season when the already existing old route is prone to several disturbing factors, including landslides and other disruptions.
