As the new Parliament building is scheduled to be inaugurated on Sunday, May 28, 19 opposition parties have issued a joint statement to boycott the opening of the new Parliament building saying "When the soul of democracy has been sucked out from the Parliament, we find no value in a new building." 

Apart from AAP, TMC, NCP, DMK, and RJD, the opposition parties who have boycotted the inaugural function included the Samajwadi Party, Kerala Congress (Mani), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katcni, Janata Dal (United) Nationalist Congress Party, Indian Union Muslim League, National Conference, Revolutionary Socialist Party and Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

Soon after the opposition parties issued the joint statement boycotting May 28 event, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi appealed to them to reconsider their decision.

"I would like to tell them that this is a historical event. This is not the time of politics...Boycotting and making issues out of a new issue is most unfortunate. I appeal to them to reconsider their decision and join this historical function...," he told media persons.

Here is the list of Opposition parties who have boycotted the opening of the new Parliament building. 

RJD

Latestly, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has joined the opposition parties to boycott the opening of the new Parliament building slated to be held on May 28 in New Delhi. "We will boycott this (the inauguration of the new Parliament building)," Bihar Deputy CM and RjD leader Tejashwi Yadav said.

NCP

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has also said that the party will not attend the inaugural function of the New parliament building, party has decided to stand with other like-minded opposition parties on this issue, a Spokesperson of NCP said, as quoted by ANI.

BRS

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) said the party is unlikely to attend the inauguration ceremony of new Parliament building. "We have not taken any decision yet, we are yet to take a call. It is unlikely that we will attend but we'll announce our decision tomorrow," BRS MP K Keshava Rao said.

Shiv Sena (UBT)

As all opposition parties have decided to boycott the inauguration of the new Parliament building, Uddhav Thackeray faction leader Sanjay Raut said they will also boycott the ceremony.

DMK

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) will also boycott the new Parliament building inauguration. "It has not been done in a proper way and the decorum which should be followed, is not being followed. So, the Opposition parties have decided to boycott it," DMK MP Kanimozhi said.

AAP

Amid objection by the opposition over the inauguration of the Parliament building by PM Modi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has included its name in the boycott list. "Aam Aadmi Party will boycott the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building on 28th May. AAP has taken this decision in view of the questions being raised regarding the matter of not inviting the President to the inauguration ceremony," AAP said.

TMC

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has decided to boycott the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building which is scheduled to be opened on May 28 in New Delhi. Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien launched an attack on PM Modi and said the new building is all about 'I, Me, and Myself' for the prime minister.

CPI(M)

Communist Party of India (Marxist) has also announced a boycott of the inauguration ceremony. "There shall be a Parliament for the Union which shall consist of the President and two Houses..." CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said in a tweet.

"Only when the President of India summons the Parliament can it meet? The President begins, annually, Parliamentary functioning by addressing the joint session. The first business Parliament transacts each year is the "Motion of Thanks" to the President's Address," he tweeted.

CPI

Communist Party of India (CPI) general secretary D Raja has also said that his party will not attend the inaugural ceremony, as reported by the news agency PTI.

Congress

The party is likely to join other opposition parties in boycotting the new Parliament building inauguration, according to media reports."Congress is likely to boycott the inauguration program of the new Parliament building to be held on 28th May," the party sources said as quoted by Mint.
