Delhi LG Approves Health Scheme For Registered Construction Workers To Avail Upto Rs 10 Lakh For Treatment | Check Benefits

In a major update, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taran Singh Sandhu on Saturday has approved the Delhi Building Workers Health Scheme, providing comprehensive healthcare coverage for construction workers and their families. Under the scheme, each worker is eligible for up to Rs 2 lakh in annual medical treatment, while families can avail of coverage up to Rs10 lakh per year, benefiting over 2.7 lakh registered workers.

Eligible Spouse To Receive Check-Up, Consultation

Annoucing the scheme, the Delhi LG said, "Under the scheme, every registered construction worker and their eligible spouse will receive an annual health check-up, along with cashless outpatient consultation, diagnostics, medicines and inpatient treatment through a network of empanelled hospitals functioning at CGHS rates.”

If an accident occurs on the worksite, beneficiaries may also avail treatment at the nearest non-empanelled hospital, which will be deemed provisionally empanelled for the limited duration of such treatment," the statement said. According to officials, the construction workers' scheme will be implemented through a Project Implementing Agency to be engaged initially for three years. Amid a performance review, the scheme can be extended by another year too.

Software System To Manage Records

The scheme will also include a dedicated software system which will manage beneficiary records, treatment history and claims processing through a digital system. Transport workers will receive mobile medical units from worksites to empanelled hospitals, coordinate health screenings and spread awareness.

Additionally, every claim submitted by the Project Implementing Agency will undergo third-party verification and other checks deemed necessary by the board before payment is released, ensuring transparency. Periodic reports will also be submitted to the board to track the scheme's progress. The Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, an autonomous statutory body set up in 2002, registers construction workers and administers welfare schemes for them from the cess collected from construction employers.

 The scheme had been approved by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and the Delhi government's cabinet before receiving the Lieutenant Governor's approval.
