ECI-SIR Row: Ahead of the INDIA Bloc's scheduled Ramlila Maidan rally on Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has challenged the opposition to debate the alleged poll rigging issue in parliament. While addressing the BJP workers during his Uttar Pradesh visit on Friday, the home minister asserted that NDA has "nothing to hide" regarding the elections. While inviting the opposition for a debate in a special parliament session, he alleged that the INDIA Bloc has chosen to create ruckus.
Amit Shah Dares Opposition
In his address, Shah pointed out that the BJP has registered landslide victories in the recent assembly elections, including Haryana, Maharashtra, Bihar, and West Bengal. The home minister alleged that it was after the crushing defeat of Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal, the opposition realized that it cannot win elections against BJP.
While taking names of senior opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, Shah asserted that the BJP is ready to discuss the allegations in parliament. He further claimed that the opposition has no intention of debating in parliament, adding that they just want to create ruckus.

In Maharashtra, the NDA formed the government with the largest share of seats. In Bihar, for the first time, a Chief Minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party took office. The same goes for Akhilesh and others in the 'INDIA' alliance who are with him. Instead of accepting defeat, they began accusing the umpire of cheating, claiming that votes were stolen. INDIA Bloc's Mega Rally
Shah's remarks came two days before the INDIA Bloc's scheduled rally at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan on Sunday. The leaders from several opposition parties are set to address the protesters and seek resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The opposition has alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Row Over SIR
The row escalated after an Indian Express report revealed that two election commissioners raised several objections during the revision exercise. The report also stated that their objections were not even addressed at times. However, the poll body, in its affidavit to Supreme Court, asserted that all the decisions were taken mutually.
