- INDIA Bloc plans public impeachment of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
- Mega rally against "vote chori" at Ramlila Maidan Nov 1.
- Congress expects one million people at Delhi protest.
In a fresh escalation, INDIA Bloc members have announced a symbolic “public impeachment meeting” on October 30 demanding the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s removal. This will be followed by a major rally against alleged vote chori at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1. Congress general secretary KC Venugopal announced the two programmes as part of the opposition alliance’s nationwide mobilisation to protest alleged electoral irregularities.
Sharing a hard-hitting post on X, KC Venugopal said the October 30 event would seek to amplify public demands for the removal of the CEC, while the march to the capital would bring opposition members together in a show of unity. The Congress has said it wants at least one million people to attend the November 1 rally.
1 Million People Expected On Nov 1 Rally
“In our effort to save the Constitution and defeat the Vote Chors, the INDIA bloc will be holding a crucial public impeachment proceeding on 30th October wherein the public’s verdict to remove the Vote Chor CEC Gyanesh Kumar will be delivered loud and clear,” Venugopal wrote.

He asserted that the second phase of the agitation would involve a march to Delhi, culminating in a rally at Ramlila Maidan. The Congress is seeking participation from across the country and has called on its INDIA bloc partners to mobilise their respective leaders and workers for the event.
“After this public impeachment, we will hold a Dilli Chalo March against Vote Chori culminating at Ramleela Maidan on November 1, where nearly a million concerned citizens will participate. Hon’ble INC President Sh. Mallikarjun @kharge ji has reached out to all INDIA Bloc parties requesting their leaders and members are present in Delhi during this period in full force,” he stated.
Arrangements for the November 1 protest are already underway at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi. Earlier on Saturday, Venugopal reviewed the arrangements for the INDIA bloc’s proposed mega rally at Indira Bhavan, with party representatives discussing mobilisation plans for the event.
Venugopal stated meetings had been held with chairpersons and in-charges of the party’s various frontals and departments to assess the preparations and coordinate efforts ahead of the agitation.
“We continued our meetings to take stock of preparations for the INDIA Bloc's Mega Rally against Vote Chori on November 1st, as we met with Chairpersons and In-charges of various frontals and departments at Indira Bhavan today,” Venugopal said in another post on X.
How did the BJP react?
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has condemned the opposition’s public trial plans, dismissing the agitation as an attempt to undermine democratic institutions. BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra accused the INDIA bloc and Rahul Gandhi of spreading confusion, lies, and deceit because they are unable to accept electoral realities.
Patra stated that the opposition is attempting to manufacture anarchy by repeatedly attacking constitutional bodies, including the judiciary, the armed forces, and now the Election Commission. The ruling party maintained that the poll panel functions independently within constitutional limits and accused the Congress of staging political stunts to keep its leadership relevant.
