- Russia proposes Ivolga FG high-speed train for India.
- Offers joint production and R&D collaboration with partners.
- TMH already involved in Vande Bharat sleeper train manufacturing.
Russia is seeking to expand its presence in India’s high-speed rail sector by offering the Ivolga FG train as a potential solution for the country. Russian rolling stock giant Transmashholding (TMH) has proposed working with Indian partners to develop and manufacture the high-speed train domestically.
The Ivolga FG is designed to operate at speeds of up to 360 kmph, making it a good option for future high-speed rail projects in India. TMH has also offered to collaborate on research and development, bringing Russian expertise in railway engineering, technology and scientific research to the proposed partnership.
TMH already has an established presence in India through Kinet Railway Solutions, a joint venture between TMH and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). The company is currently involved in the manufacturing and maintenance of Vande Bharat sleeper trains for Indian Railways.

As part of the existing project, 120 Vande Bharat sleeper trainsets are planned for production. Each trainset will consist of 16 coaches, with manufacturing taking place at the upgraded Marathwada Rail Coach Factory in Latur, Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, the manufacturing of the first Vande Bharat sleeper prototype is currently underway at the upgraded Marathwada Rail Coach Factory. According to RVNL, the prototype is expected to roll out during the current financial year, by March 2027.
