- Patwari rode elderly man's back to avoid wet shoes.
- Viral video led to immediate suspension of the patwari.
- Allegations of corruption also included in the ongoing investigation.
A video showing a patwari riding on the back of an elderly man while crossing a water-filled ditch in Mata village has gone viral on social media, prompting the district administration to order an investigation.
The incident took place in the Mata Gram Panchayat area of Gopad Banas tehsil, where Halka Patwari Nilesh Namdev had visited the village to survey the house and farmland of local resident Lalva Kewat and assess damage allegedly caused by wild animals.
Kewat’s house was located across a small river. Namdev, who allegedly did not want to get his shoes wet, told the elderly man that he would be able to conduct the survey only if he was carried across the river. Kewat then carried the patwari on his shoulders through the muddy water.

Following the circulation of the video, Collector Vikas Mishra directed Additional Collector BP Pandey to visit the village and conduct an inquiry into the incident.
Gopad Banas Sub-Divisional Magistrate Priya Pathak said that after the video came to light, an inquiry was conducted and Namdev was suspended with immediate effect.
The action was taken under Rule 9 of the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services Rules 1966, after his conduct was prima facie found to be insensitive and humiliating. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, officials said.
Meanwhile, villagers had earlier complained during a public grievance hearing that the patwari was allegedly demanding money for official services, including government land leases, the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi scheme, caste certificates and birth certificates. These allegations have also been included in the investigation.

The video shows Namdev sitting on the back of the elderly man as he walks through the water-filled ditch. The footage has sparked outrage on social media, with several people describing the incident as humiliating and an affront to human dignity.
In addition to this, villagers also accused the patwari of illegally collecting money for official services. These allegations were raised during the Collector's public grievance hearing and are now part of the ongoing investigation.
