The protest was led by Yuva Sena District Chief Vikram Randhave, who released the puppies inside the Niphad Nagar Panchayat office, Nashik. Why Were Stray Dogs Taken Inside The Office?
The demonstration followed complaints from residents about the increasing number of stray dogs in and around Niphad. Protesters claimed that children, senior citizens, women and motorists were facing difficulties because of the animals and alleged that several people had suffered dog bites.
They further claimed that repeated complaints and representations had not resulted in concrete action from the administration.
The issue was also raised during the ongoing Ganeshotsav celebrations. Randhave claimed that the presence of stray dogs around Ganesh mandals was creating fear among people visiting.
Netizens React
The incident sparked anger among netizens, with many calling the protest ‘animal cruelty’ while many others highlighted the stray dog menace in their region.
Reacting to the video, a user said, "I understand the frustration. Stray dogs are a serious issue, given that dogs bite many people every day. However, this shouldn't be the way to protest. A person needs to keep in mind that officials hold public positions and should be respected."
What Did The Protesters Demand?
Randhave demanded immediate sterilisation drives, proper dog-catching arrangements and measures to control the stray-dog population.
He also accused the civic administration of focusing on tendering processes instead of addressing the issue, despite repeated appeals.
Randhave warned that if action was not taken, he would repeat the demonstration and release stray dogs inside the Chief Officer’s office again in the presence of citizens.
