Thane Water Cut: Residents of Thane will need to adjust their routines as the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has shifted its planned 10 per cent weekly water cut from Wednesdays to Mondays, starting November 2, 2026.

The decision was finalised on October 28 during a high-level meeting chaired by Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, alongside the managing director of STEM Water Company and civic officials, NDTV reported. The revised schedule applies to all areas supplied by both the TMC's own network and the STEM Water Distribution and Infrastructure Company Pvt. Ltd.

Reason Behind The Revised Schedule

The adjustment follows state government directives instructing authorities to manage water reserves until August 31, 2027. Amid concerns over El Niño and potential drought-like conditions in the coming months, the measure aims to conserve existing supplies, prioritise drinking water needs, and ensure sustained distribution throughout the region.

List Of Affected Areas

The mandatory 10 per cent water reduction will impact several key residential and commercial localities, including:

  • Ghodbunder Road
  • Lokmanya Nagar
  • Vartak Nagar
  • Saket and Rutu Park
  • Jail and Gandhinagar
  • Rustomjee and Siddhanchal
  • Indiranagar and Rupadevi
  • Shreenagar and Samata Nagar
  • Siddheshwar, Eternity, and Johnson
  • Mumbra and select parts of Kalwa

Advisory For Thane Residents

The civic body has issued an advisory urging all residents to store adequate water in advance and use available supplies judiciously during the shutdown. Municipal officials have urged citizens to adopt strict water conservation habits and extend full cooperation to the TMC during this drive.
