A man from Uttar Pradesh has claimed that he was abducted for five days over an unpaid mobile phone instalment for a handset he purchased a year ago. Unable to pay the instalment, he was allegedly forced to give blood and held captive in a house for several days, where he was made to perform labour.

The 27-Year old man has been identified as Naval, had purchased a Samsung mobile phone worth Rs 21,500 from a shop last year under a zero-down-payment scheme. His monthly instalment was fixed at Rs 2,799 for 12 months.

According to his family, when the first instalment became due, people from the shop came to their home and took back the phone.

On September 8, two men allegedly returned to the family's home and took Naval with them.

'Took Blood, After Unable To Pay'

Naval alleged that the men took him to a blood bank in Lucknow, where one unit of blood was extracted. He was then taken to a house, where he was allegedly held captive and forced to perform labour for several days, India Today reported.

The accused later contacted Naval's elder brother, Rajkumar, and demanded Rs 2,799 through an online payment towards the mobile phone instalment. When the family pleaded for Naval's release, they allegedly demanded another Rs 12,000.

Even after receiving the instalment amount, they refused to release the youth and demanded another Rs 12,000. The family was allegedly threatened with dire consequences, including that the youth would be killed and his body thrown into the Gomti river if they approached the police.

Concerned for his safety, the family approached the police and filed a complaint. Following police complaint, Naval was brought home in a Rapido cab after 5 days. His brother allegedly had to pay the fare.

The family claimed that when they sought police action against those involved, they were threatened and warned that Naval could also be implicated if they pursued the matter.

However, the case was registered only after Naval's mother approached a senior police officer, alleging inaction by the local police. A case has been registered against the accused.
