Lucknow Hit-And-Run: A hit-and-run incident was reported in Uttar Pradesh's capital city, Lucknow, in which a woman was dragged by a car for several meters on the bonnet and ran over, amid massive public outrage over a similar crime in Gurugram, in which a speeding car hit a woman biker and fled the scene.

According to media reports, an argument between the man in the car and the woman turned ugly, and the accused dragged the woman on the bonnet of his car near Janeshwar Mishra Park in the Gomti Nagar Extension police station area.

India.com reported that the victim was the girlfriend of the accused. The video of the incident emerged on social media, showing a woman shouting to stop the car, but the man inside the car turned a deaf ear and drove his car with the woman clinging to the bonnet of the car. Then the woman fell on the roadside as passersby rushed to help her. A passerby recorded the incident on his phone, capturing the vehicle number. Later, the accused was identified as Shahnawaz and the woman as Anamika. They were reportedly a couple.

What Is The Matter?

According to media reports, Anamika went to Janeshwar Mishra Park for a cup of tea when she saw her boyfriend arrive in his car with a female friend. The presence of a female friend with Shahnawaz angered her, and they engaged in an argument. When Shahnawaz and his friend attempted to leave the place, Anamika stood in front of the car and asked them to stop. The accused did not care that she was clinging to the bonnet and started driving. After a few meters of being dragged, Anamika fell on the road.

Subsequently, Anamika went to the police station and lodged a complaint against Shahnawaz. The police said they had filed a complaint and initiated action against the accused.

What Police Said On The Incident

According to Diksha Sharma, DCP-East, the accused has been detained and further probe is underway. "This morning, information was received about a woman hit by a car near Janeshwar Mishra Park. Taking immediate cognisance of the matter, Police reached the spot and it was found that both sides were familiar with each other. They had an argument over something, following which the man and a few of his friends who were in the car hit the woman and fled. The woman underwent a medical examination. A case is being registered and section for attempt to murder is being invoked," she added.
