In a significant operation on Tuesday night, Meghalaya Police arrested nine Bangladeshi nationals for illegally entering India. The individuals were apprehended while travelling in a van in the West Garo Hills district, near the Indo-Bangladesh border, during a routine check at Dalamgre village.
Authorities seized 12 mobile phones equipped with various SIM cards, Indian currency, Aadhaar cards, and other incriminating documents from the detainees. Additionally, two vehicles used for transportation were confiscated. Three Indian facilitators aiding the illegal entry have also been arrested.
Earlier yesterday, the BSF North Bengal posted on X that in the intervening night, a few Bangladeshi miscreants crossed the international border to commit smuggling/robbery in the border village Malikpur District Dakshin Dinajpur located near the fence.

In another related incident, an Indian man identified as Akhtar Jamal Roni was shot by the Border Security Force (BSF) at the Bangladesh-India border while attempting to return to India. Roni had entered Bangladesh to attend a religious function and was accompanied by a woman.
Despite multiple warnings, they attempted to breach the border fence and engaged in a scuffle with security personnel. In accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, the BSF fired a single round, injuring Roni, while the woman managed to flee.
