A meeting of NITI Aayog, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was held in New Delhi on Saturday. NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam said the Chief Ministers of over 10 states and UT did not attend the Governing Council meeting. However, CMs and LGs of 26 states and union territories were among the attendees.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar could not attend the meeting owing to his engagement in the assembly session.

Subrahmanyam mentioned that besides Bihar and Kerala, the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Puducherry did not participate in the meeting, asserting that it was their loss only.

Sharing the insights from the meeting, Subrahmanyam said that the discussion focused on eradicating poverty in rural areas. He said the meeting was organised to explore how the development of states can be advanced and how contributions can be made towards this goal.

The NITI Aayog CEO stated that after receiving feedback from the Chief Ministers of the states, the commission will finalise the 'Vision India at 2047' document within the next 45 days.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address at the meeting, NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery mentioned that PM Modi wants the states to compete for FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) so that investment can reach all states. The meeting also discussed population management and poverty eradication.

According to Subrahmanyam, the Prime Minister wants the states to spend more on strengthening districts to accelerate development. The Prime Minister suggested prioritising the eradication of poverty for a developed India. In the meeting, PM Modi emphasized the need to tackle poverty at the village level. After assessment, villages can be declared "poverty-free."
