The Delhi Election Commission has issued a response to Arvind Kejriwal, National Convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), who recently accused BJP workers of intimidating and harassing AAP volunteers during the lead-up to the assembly elections. According to the commission, no formal written complaints have been filed about these allegations as of Sunday.

In a statement posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the District Election Officer (DEO) for New Delhi addressed the claims against BJP supporters, stating that an investigation found no written complaints in most cases. The officer clarified that whenever written complaints are received from any political party regarding such allegations, all such matters are invariably investigated in accordance with the law and Election Commission of India (ECI) norms. Appropriate action, as per ECI guidelines, is either initiated or recommended in all such cases, the National Poll Body stated in its official statement.

Furthermore, the Delhi Poll Body stated that necessary action had been taken by the law authorities in all cases related to specific complaints mentioned by Kejriwal.

“As far as the issue of an independent observer is concerned, it is to inform that General Observers, Expenditure Observers, and Police Observers have already been deployed for all constituencies, including the New Delhi Constituency," the Poll Body added.

However, Kejriwal has continued to demand the appointment of independent observers for his constituency, highlighting concerns over fairness.

In addition, Kejriwal had raised alarms after reporting an incident on Sunday where individuals allegedly surrounded an AAP campaign van and tore down party posters. The Delhi Police responded, assuring strict legal action after a formal complaint was filed. However, the New Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) noted that no police complaint or PCR call had been received, and legal action would follow once an official report was made.

Kejriwal's Claims of Harassment

Kejriwal has been vocal about the harassment he claims AAP volunteers are experiencing at the hands of BJP workers and Delhi Police ahead of the 2025 Delhi elections.

In a recent post on X, Kejriwal expressed concern over the alleged mistreatment of AAP volunteers in the New Delhi Assembly Constituency.

“I am writing to express my grave concern over the intimidation and harassment being meted out to our grassroots volunteers in the New Delhi Assembly Constituency at the hands of BJP workers and the Delhi Police in the run-up to election day," he wrote on X.

“Yesterday, our senior volunteer Chetan (a resident of Princess Park Part-2) was unlawfully detained and booked under Section 126 of BNSS, 2023, at Tilak Marg Police Station on baseless and fictitious grounds that he has previous cases registered against him, while there are none. He was brazenly charged with actions he had never committed. He was also subjected to severe physical abuse by police officials to the point that he fainted and was subsequently rushed to Lady Hardinge Hospital. Later, after a lot of struggle, he was produced before the Returning Officer/SDM concerned and granted bail in a matter where he had been blatantly framed,” Kejriwal claimed.

Kejriwal’s allegations also extended to BJP workers, accusing them of threatening and physically assaulting AAP supporters.

During a press conference, Kejriwal predicted a “decisive win” for AAP in the upcoming February 5 elections, suggesting that BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, were rattled by the party's momentum. He claimed that the BJP's aggressive tactics were an attempt to undermine AAP's growing popularity.

To further rally his supporters, Kejriwal launched a social media campaign under the hashtag #AmitShahKiGoondagardi, encouraging people to share their experiences of being intimidated or attacked during the election period.
