Noida International Airport Faces Transport Challenges; Commuters Rely On Taxis And Bike Services

The newly opened Noida International Airport (NIA) is facing some major challenges due to public transportation, since there’s no way for customers to get there at this time. As a result of this situation, travellers rely on taxis, bike taxis, or their personal vehicles until there is an adequate transportation network established.

To help provide a short-term solution to this concern, NIA has partnered with Mahindra Logistics Mobility to create an electric taxi service at the airport. Additionally, bike taxis and cab services from various platforms, such as Uber and Rapido, will provide 24-hour services to the airport with dedicated pick-up and drop points for passengers who are coming or going.

NIA will provide transportation to 24 districts in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan within approximately 150 km of the airport. Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation will provide a bus service to 17 of these districts, including Meerut, Aligarh, Agra and Mathura, with a plan to eventually extend bus service to Gurugram and Faridabad.

There are also plans to add bus service to Uttarakhand.

An agreement was signed between NIA and Uttarakhand Transport Corporation in February 2025 for the development and operation of AC Bus services along the identified routes. These routes will include Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Haldwani and will begin operation at the same time flights commence.

The three authorities (Noida, Greater Noida, Yamuna) had planned to launch a joint operation of 500 buses across the cities, but due to high costs, a lack of infrastructure, and continued delays in establishing a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), they cannot proceed. Public transportation between the airport and surrounding areas has been severely affected by the inability of any type of service (e.g., buses) to connect with the airport.

The expressway has been closed to auto-rickshaws, and therefore, there is no bus service connecting to either the airport or the Botanical Garden (the station nearest the airport), which serves as a connection point between the Blue Line and Aqua Line (approximately 65 km distance). Another example of how public transportation is affected by current conditions can be seen in the lack of a direct bus service between the Botanical Garden and Jewar.
