The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has announced that the much-anticipated air-conditioned skywalk connecting the Delhi Metro Blue Line’s Sector 52 station with the Noida Metro Aqua Line’s Sector 51 station is likely to be opened for the public on October 2. This skywalk comes after years of delay, aiming to improve connectivity between the two corridors.

According to officials, the lack of integration between the Delhi Metro’s Blue Line and the Noida Metro’s Aqua Line has discouraged commuters, especially those travelling from Delhi to Noida or Greater Noida, from using the metro.

Details About Noida-Delhi Metro Skywalk

- The skywalk between Noida Metro’s Aqua Line and Delhi Metro’s Blue Line is 420 metres long and 5 metres wide and includes moving walkways and elevators for commuters' convenience.

- The skywalk is equipped with a moving walkway or travellator operating at a speed of 0.5 metres per second to ease travelling from the Blue Line to the Aqua Line.

- Until now, passengers had to exit one station, use temporary walkways or e-rickshaws and then re-enter the other station. These inter-line transfers were often criticised by the public as it was inconvenient, time-consuming and costly.

- The construction work began in 2023 with an estimated budget of Rs 40 crore. However, the air-conditioned skywalk faced multiple delays after its single-pillar design was changed to a two-pillar structure.

- A 300-metre-long tin shed-covered walkway was demolished to construct the modern skywalk.

- According to NMRC officials, the skywalk is expected to be open to the public on October 2, aiming to seamlessly integrate both metro networks and eliminate the need for separate ticketing during inter-line transfers.
