Noida: In a dramatic encounter on Sunday morning, Noida Police arrested five members of a gang involved in several thefts across the city. One of the gang members was shot in the leg during the exchange of fire with the police.
The main accused, Vinesh from Hapur, had been on the police radar for over two years. He had been stealing from factories, companies, and warehouses in the Noida Phase-2 area. In a recent case on April 2nd, he and his gang stole aluminium worth lakhs of rupees from a company named Colorjet as per a report by Jagran.com.
While attempting to escape after spotting the police near Kachahari Cut, Vinesh and his associates tried to flee in a WagonR car. When the police chased them, the criminals opened fire. The encounter ended with Vinesh being shot in the leg and arrested along with his two aides.
Five Arrested, Stolen Goods Recovered
Along with Vinesh, police arrested Zafar from Noida, Akash from Aligarh, Sachin from Patna (Bihar), and Abdul Gani from Badaun. These five had planned and carried out the recent theft together.
The police recovered several items from the gang, including:
- A WagonR and a pickup truck used for the thefts
- A country-made pistol and a knife
- Seven aluminium plates and pipes
- Rs 30,000 in cash made from selling stolen goods
Gang Targeted NCR Companies
According to DCP Central Noida, Shakti Mohan Awasthi, the gang would first do a proper recce before committing any theft. They kept an eye on who entered and exited the company premises, and once they found the right opportunity, they would break in and steal valuable items.
They mostly used commercial vehicles to transport stolen goods and would later sell them at cheap rates to scrap dealers.

Vinesh has four cases registered against him, Zafar has two, and Akash and Abdul Gani have one each.
