The Ganga canal will be closed from Saturday midnight, October 12, starting from Haridwar, for cleaning. This will affect the supply of Ganga water from the Ganga water plant to the people of the Trans-Hindon area and Noida. The Ganga canal will remain closed until November 2. During this period, more than 1 million people in the Trans-Hindon and Siddharth Vihar areas will be affected. In the meantime, the municipality and the GDA will supply water from borewells once a day. Water will be released into the Ganga canal at midnight on November 2.

During Dussehra, farmers have less need for water, which is why the Ganga canal is cleaned every year during this time. The Ganga water reaches the Ganga water plant located in Pratap Vihar from the Ganga canal. The storage capacity of the Pratap Vihar plant is 150 cusecs of water. When the Ganga canal is closed, water is stored in the plant for two days.

This plant supplies Ganga water to Vasundhara, Vaishali, Indirapuram, Delta Colony, Kaushambi, and Siddharth Vihar. Additionally, water is supplied from borewells and tankers. Ganga water is provided for one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening.

How Water Is Supplied From Ganga

-100 cusecs of Ganga water is supplied from the plant.
-80 cusecs of Ganga water is supplied to Noida.
-Indirapuram gets 15 cusecs of Ganga water.
-05 cusecs of Ganga water is supplied to Siddharth Vihar.

Ganga Canal: How Will Water Supply Affect Locals?

As soon as the supply of Ganga water is halted, people in the Trans-Hindon area will have to rely on bottled water. In such cases, private water plant operators become active, but the quality of their water is not guaranteed. Recently, water samples from the Sahibabad plant have failed quality tests. When Ganga water is unavailable, people are forced to purchase this water. The water from tubewells does not reach the upper floors of multi-story buildings. The municipality supplies water through tankers.
