Northeastern districts of India have been witnessing heavy rainfall for the past several days. As a result, landslides have occurred on several main roads, leaving several tourists stranded at various locations. As many as 30 persons have been killed in two days in rain-related incidents, Jagran.com reported.
The excessive flow of water in the River Teesta has caused massive destruction in north Sikkim.
The Mangan District Administration confirmed 112 tourists were stranded in Lachen and 1,350 were stuck in Lachung.

The Phidang Bailey Bridge, which links Mangan to Chungthang, has sustained significant damage to its foundation. The Sankalang bamboo bridge, a vital access route to the Dzongu, has collapsed entirely due to excessive downpour. As a result, the Dzongu constituency has now been completely isolated.
Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Manipur have been severely affected by landslides and floods. In Assam alone, at least 60,000 people have been affected across 12 districts.
In Assam, sudden floods and landslides have claimed the lives of 8 people, while in Arunachal Pradesh, 9 people have died due to similar conditions. In the East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, a landslide swept a car off the road, resulting in the death of seven members from two families.

The Meteorological Department has issued red and orange alerts for some parts of Assam and orange and yellow alerts for the rest of the northeastern region. In Assam, 8 people have died due to landslides following continuous rainfall over the past 24 hours. Floods have also hit six districts, affecting around 10,000 people.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), all five reported deaths occurred in the Kamrup Metropolitan district. Assam's Urban Affairs Minister, Jayanta Malla Baruah, stated that in the Bonda area on the outskirts of Guwahati, three women died in a landslide.
Guwahati recorded 111 mm of rainfall in a single day, breaking a 67-year-old record. The water levels of several rivers in the northeast, including the Brahmaputra, have risen significantly.
