Odisha: A row erupted in Odisha's Balasore after members of a family carried the dead body of a woman on a bicycle to a police station, alleging inaction. The kin stated that the woman was killed by her relatives over a family dispute, further alleging that the police failed to arrest the prime accused. The video clips of the family members carrying the dead body went viral on social media, prompting immediate reaction from the police.

What Did Family Members Say?

Kamala Sethi died on the spot after being violently attacked by a group during construction work on Sunday. Apart from this, Sakuntala Sethi, her sister-in-law, got seriously injured and was admitted to a hospital for treatment. The family members alleged that the police failed to arrest the accused despite the woman's death.

"As the police did not take any action against the accused, we decided to bring the body on a bicycle to the police station as a mark of protest," a family member was quoted as saying by the news agency PTI. However, the police denied the allegations and assured that all the accused will be arrested soon.

While providing details, SP Balasore stated that the family members refused to take the ambulance services. He further stated that the senior officials rushed to the site after the video was circulated and assured strict action in the matter.

"The family refused to take the body in an ambulance, though one was following the bicycle. We assured them that the culprits would be nabbed soon and the investigation is underway," the SP was quoted as saying by PTI. The officials stated that one person has been arrested in the case, while two others are absconding.

Earlier in April, man carried his deceased sister's skeleton to the bank to withdraw money from her account on April 27. The tribal man walked three kilometers in the scorching heat in Keonjhar district to withdraw Rs 19,300 after the bank asked him to present valid documents.
