Odisha Flood Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a flood alert for three districts of Odisha—Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore. The weather department stated that the continuous rainfall has led to a surge in water level in the Subarnarekha, Jalaka, and Baitarani rivers, leading to flood-like situations in the low-lying regions. The water resources department has stated that the district administration has been alerted, adding that all the necessary steps are being taken to avoid any inconveniences.

"Heavy rainfall has occurred in the catchment area of this river. There is a flood-like situation here. The river is flowing above the danger level. Our engineers are on the spot and they are monitoring the situation," Chief Engineer of Water Resources Lingraj Gaur was quoted as saying by ANI. The officials also stated that the situation is being monitored, adding that the people living in these regions might need to be evacuated.

While providing details, Bhadrak district collector Dilip Routrai stated that some of the residents are being evacuated to schools and flood shelters. “We are making announcements to inform people about the flood situation and to remain vigilant. It has been decided to evacuate people from low-lying areas to schools and flood shelters. We have decided to deploy the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) teams to help in taking people to safety,” Routrai stated.

The weather department on Saturday emphasised that several regions of the state are likely to witness light to heavy rainfall for the upcoming few days.
