An 18-year-old boy, Biswajit Behera, died of electrocution on Sunday while trying to sneak into his girlfriend's house in Odisha's Dhenkanal district. The victim scaled a wall to enter the house and came into contact with a live electric wire, collapsing on the spot.
Biswajit's family has alleged foul play in his death, accusing the girl's relatives of possible involvement and filing a formal police complaint, while Superintendent of Police Abhinav Sonkar confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
"Based on preliminary information, it appears to be a case of electrocution, but the exact cause of death will be known only after investigation. The incident took place late on September 28 night, although the victim's family has filed a complaint alleging murder,” the police officer said, according to the NDTV report.
In a separate incident, a 23-year-old man, P. Dhanasekaran, a car driver from Lakshmanan Nagar, Tirusulam, was electrocuted on the night of Tuesday, August 8, 2024, in Pallavaram, Chengalpattu district, Tamil Nadu, while trying to meet his girlfriend.
The bachelor attempted to enter her house through the back by scaling a wall, but lost his balance while walking on the parapet and came into contact with an overhead power cable, which threw him off the wall.
Police said he likely did not notice the cable as the streetlights were off, and the wall was slippery from rain; he may have also tried to grab the wire for support. Neighbours heard his cries, found him unconscious on the road, and alerted the Pallavaram police, who rushed him to Govt.
Chromepet Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. His body has been sent for postmortem examination, and investigators noted that Dhanasekaran had previously been caught attempting to sneak into the houses of three other women; further investigation is ongoing.
