Odisha On High Alert: The administration in Odisha has placed 18 districts in the state on high alert, as all the districts, except two, have been placed under a yellow alert for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms with lightning. Koraput and Malkangiri have been put under an orange alert for the high possibility of very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning about heavy rainfall triggered by a new low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. Special Relief Commissioner Deoranjan Kumar Singh has instructed district collectors to be on high alert and prepared for emergencies via video conference.

Odisha Weather Update: Orange Alert In Koraput, Malkangiri

- Koraput and Malkangiri have been placed under an orange alert for extremely heavy rainfall, with all the other districts placed on a yellow alert for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning with gusty winds expected to blow at 30-40 kmph on Friday. 

- The weather condition in Odisha is expected to remain the same tomorrow on September 27, with Nawrangpur on orange alert for extremely heavy rainfall, while the rest are on a yellow alert.

- Although there is no warning placed on any districts in Odisha from Sunday, September 28, the weather department has anticipated moderate to light rain with thunderstorms and lightning till October 1.

Government Official’s Leave Cancelled

The Odisha government has taken precautionary measures by cancelling leaves for government employees in several districts. Specifically, district collectors in Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nabarangpur have instructed their staff to remain on high alert and not leave their stations. Similarly, collectors in Rayagada, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Balasore, and Nuapada have been directed to be fully prepared.

Government Appeals To Residents To Exercise Caution

With officials continuing to monitor the situation, the state government has urged the residents to exercise caution and follow the advisory.
