Odisha Weather Update: A low pressure area is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal around July 24. In view of this, an orange alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rains, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds (30 to 40 kmph) at some places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Kendujhar districts on July 23 and 24.
Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued in the remaining Odisha districts. On July 25 and 26, light to moderate rain with thundershowers may occur in most districts.
On July 24, strong winds (35-45 kmph) are likely along and off the Odisha coast, West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts and adjoining areas. The wind speed may reach up to 55 kmph.
In this regard, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea on July 24 as the sea will remain rough. During the last 24 hours, Atabira in Bargarh district received 10 cm of rain, Jharigaon in Nawarangpur, Chhendipada in Angul and Alipingal in Jagatsinghpur received 9 cm of rain each.

As per the weather department, a trough line has formed from the central part of North Bihar to Odisha via Jharkhand. An upper air cyclonic circulation is 3.1 km above northwest Bengal adjoining the Bay of Bengal over west central and south Odisha, north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.
The monsoon trough is currently passing through a marked low pressure area over West Rajasthan and adjoining Pakistan, Churu, Ayanagar, Shahjahanpur, Lucknow, Patna, Bankura, Digha and from there eastwards over the north-east Bay of Bengal. Due to its effect, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at many places in Odisha for the next five days.
