An Indian Army soldier was killed in cross-border shelling by Pakistani forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. According to reports, cited by Jagran.com, Dinesh Kumar, who was deployed in the Krishna Ghati sector, lost his life amidst intense firing from across the border following India’s recent strikes on major terror camps in Pakistan and PoK under Operation Sindoor.

Kumar, a native of Palwal district in Haryana, sustained critical injuries during the shelling. He was immediately rushed to a military hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds during treatment. His mortal remains will be transported to his hometown in Palwal on Thursday.

At least 13 people lost their lives and 57 others were injured as the Pakistan Army launched ardent artillery and mortar bombardments targeting forward villages along the LoC. Pooch district is the worst-hit, where 13 deaths have been reported to be dead. 

The intense and indiscriminate shelling forced hundreds of civilians to flee their homes, seeking safety in underground bunkers or relocating to secure areas. The barrage caused extensive damage, destroying homes, vehicles, and infrastructure, including a Gurdwara, and triggered widespread panic among residents.

The officials identified the deceased as Balvinder Kour (33), Mohd Zain Khan (10), his elder sister Zoya Khan (12), Mohd Akram (40), Amrik Singh (55), Mohd Iqbal (45), Ranjeet Singh (48), Shakeela Bi (40), Amarjeet Singh (47), Maryam Khatoon (7), Vihaan Bhargav (13) and Mohd Rafi (40) and a Lance naik of Army.

Reacting to the ceasefire violations, Indian defence officials said they were closely following the development at the LoC and security forces were on high alert in view of the possible misadventure by Pakistan. 

Chief of Army Staff Gen Upendra Dwivedi is in constant touch with the formation on the forward posts and operational freedom for appropriate response has been given, ANI reported citing officials.

India launched a massive military operation to avenge the killing of 26 civilians at the hands of Pakistan-backed terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam. As many as nine terror camps were destroyed in 24 strikes by India.
