The Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday launched Operation Trashi-I after terrorists were trapped in the rugged terrain in the north of the general area Son Nar and northeast of Chhatru, near Mandral-Singhoora in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar.

The contact was established as a terrorist opened fire at the security forces during a deliberate search operation conducted as part of ongoing joint counter-terror operations. At least 3 terrorists of Jaish-e-Muhammad are suspected to be trapped in the forest area. 

In a statement, the White Knight Corps of the Indian Army said, "Contact was established with terrorists in the general area Son Nar, northeast of Chhatru, during a deliberate search operation conducted as part of ongoing joint counter-terror operations along with the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Troops displayed exceptional professionalism and resolve while responding to hostile fire under challenging terrain and conditions."

The Army stated that reinforcement was inducted for the cordon. "Operations remain underway with additional forces inducted to reinforce the cordon, supported by close coordination with civil administration and security agencies," the statement read.

Intel on presence of Pakistani terrorists in Jammu division

According to a Jagran.com report, the officials said that several Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) terrorists were trapped, and the firing was continuing in the area. The report states that the security forces had received intelligence reports on the presence of Pakistani terrorists in the dense forest and hilly areas of Kathua, Poonch, Rajouri, Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur and Reasi in the Jammu division.

The security forces have since maintained a sharp eye and enhanced vigilance in the area.

This marks the third encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Jammu region this year. Earlier, two encounters were reported in the Kahog and Najote forests in the Billawar area of Kathua district on January 7 and 13.
