New Delhi Stampede: In a tragic incident at New Delhi Railway Station, at least 18 people lost their lives and many got injured in an attempt to board a train for Mahakumbh in Prayagraj. The reports suggest that the incident occurred when a crowd rushed towards platforms 14 and 15 to board the train. While several people died in the stampede, many fainted and fell because of the suffocation.

Several of the prominent politicians, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Congress senior leader Rahul Gandhi have expressed their condolences.

While Railways minister Ashwini Vaishnav assured that all the injured people are being taken to the hospital, the opposition leaders questioned the arrangements provided by the central government. The opposition leaders claimed that the tragic incident happened because of mismanagement and asked the government to reveal the identity of the deceased.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that the incident is extremely distressing. In a post on X, he also stated that the government's approach is insensitive. "The news of several deaths and multiple injuries due to the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station is extremely tragic and distressing. I extend my deepest condolences to the grieving families and wish for the swift recovery of the injured," Rahul said. "the failure of the railway system and the insensitivity of the government," he added.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also demanded to disclose the number of dead and injured people, adding that the identity of the missing people should also be revealed. "We demand that the number of dead and injured be declared as soon as possible and the identity of the missing people should also be ensured," Kharge posted on X.

Apart from this, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, ex-Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal, and BSP supremo Mayawati also expressed their condolences. While sharing a video of the place where stampede took place, Atishi pointed out the issue of alleged mismanagement.
