Starting October 1, 2025, India Post’s Speed Post service will undergo a major digital transformation, rolling out features such as OTP-based secure delivery, online booking and payment for parcels, real-time tracking, and SMS alerts for parcel status, the government announced on Friday.

This rollout, scheduled to come into effect on October 1, follows Gazette Notification No. 4256 dated September 25, 2025, Hindustan Times reported.

Key Highlights Of The Speed Post Digital Upgrade

India Post’s Speed Post service is set to introduce several new features announced by the government on Friday. The features are:

- Speed Post will now introduce a one-time password (OTP) system to enhance parcel safety and reduce the chances of theft or misdelivery.

- Customers can now book Speed Post parcels conveniently through online portals, eliminating the need to visit a post office physically. Additionally, secure digital payment methods have been introduced to make the process convenient and time-saving.

- To keep customers updated about their parcels, Speed Post will now send automated SMS notifications about the status of their parcels.

- Additionally, customers can now track parcels in real-time, receiving up-to-date information about their parcel’s location, estimated delivery time, and any delays.

Tariff Revision To Support Service Enhancements

- The Inland Speed Post (documents) tariff has been revised for the first time.
The tariff revision is aimed at addressing increased operational costs, facilitating ongoing investments and ensuring continued improvement in the service quality.

- With these changes scheduled to take effect from October 1, 2025, customers can expect enhanced digital features with updated tariffs, which are aimed at improving security, convenience, and overall service quality.
