India's Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMO) held a press briefing on Sunday, offering updates regarding the ongoing 'Operation Sindoor'. Air Marshal AK Bharti shared key details, stressing that the operation’s methods and objectives were successful in achieving the intended results on enemy targets.
Air Marshal AK Bharti, speaking candidly about the mission, stressed that the primary aim of the operation was not to focus on casualties, but rather to hit enemy targets effectively. “Our job was to hit the target, not to count the body bags,” he remarked. He explained that while the Indian forces had the desired impact on enemy positions, the responsibility for assessing casualties rested with the Pakistan Army.

When asked about the number of casualties inflicted, Air Marshal Bharti remained clear that the focus was on achieving operational goals, rather than tallying losses. “How many casualties, how many injuries? That is for them to count. Our job is to hit the target,” he asserted.

DGMO Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai also responded on the casualties, saying, "I mentioned 35-40 on the Line of Control and please remember that once Operation Sindoor was launched, the responses of the Pakistan Army were also on Indian Army or the Indian Armed Forces infrastructure...Our targets were terror-oriented and later, once they launched air intrusions and air operations on our infrastructure, we've used heavier weapons and there would have been casualties, but those are still being assessed..."

Regarding the downing of Pakistani aircraft, Air Marshal AK Bharti confirmed that several planes had been intercepted and prevented from crossing into Indian airspace. “We have downed a few Pakistani planes,” he stated, though he refrained from giving an exact number, saying that technical assessments were underway. He added, “We don’t have wreckage, but we certainly inflicted losses on their side.”
Air Marshal Bharti also reassured the public regarding the safety of Indian pilots involved in the operation. "We are in a combat scenario and losses are part of combat. However, we have achieved all our objectives and all our pilots are back home," he said.
