Pahalgam Terrorist Attack: Syed Adil Hussain Shah was among the locals shot dead by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday. Adil Hussain, identified as a local pony ride operator and the sole breadwinner for his family, was killed while trying to fight off one of the terrorists to save a woman accompanying the family he had ferried to Baisaran.

Unaware of the fatal turn his day would take, Syed Adil Hussain Shah began his Tuesday as usual. He took his pony to ferry tourists from the car parking area in Pahalgam to the Baisaran meadow, popularly known as “Mini Switzerland.” As on any other day, Adil Hussain transported some tourists to the scenic spot in Baisaran. However, the peaceful atmosphere soon turned chaotic as gun-wielding terrorists stormed the area and began firing indiscriminately at the tourists.

As tourists scrambled to save their lives, Adil Hussain showed extraordinary courage and sacrificed his life while trying to protect a woman he had brought to the spot. Media reports state that Adil Hussain confronted one of the attackers and even attempted to snatch his rifle. However, his efforts were in vain, and the attacker shot him dead. He was the only person from the Muslim community killed in the attack.

Adil Hussain was the sole earner in his family, which included his elderly parents, wife, and children. Reacting to the tragedy, his father demanded strict punishment for those responsible for his son’s death.

"My son was the only one earning for our family. He went to Pahalgam yesterday to work, and around 3 PM, we heard about the attack. We tried to call him, but his phone was switched off. Later, at 4:30 PM, his phone was turned on, but no one answered," he said, as quoted by ANI.

"We rushed to the police station, and that’s when we learned that he had been injured in the attack. My son was martyred, and he was the only earner in our family. We want justice for his death. He was an innocent man. Why was he killed? Whoever is responsible must face the consequences," he added.

His grieving mother, struggling to cope with the loss, also appealed for justice while expressing concern for the family’s future. "He was the only support we had. He used to ride horses and earned money for the family. There is no one else to provide for us now. We don’t know what we will do without him," she said.
