Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday gave a free hand to the India Armed Forces to avenge the barbaric killings of 29 Indian citizens at the hands of Pakistan-backed terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam. PM Modi made this remark during a key meeting held at his residence. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, NSA Ajit Doval, CDS and chiefs of all the tri-forces chalked out the further strategy on action after the terror attack and briefed PM Modi about the developments.

Expressing complete faith and confidence in the professional abilities of the Indian armed forces, PM Modi said they were free to decide on the mode, time and target.

- Amid mounting tensions between India and Pakistan, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke with Pakistan PM Shebaz Sharif and India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Guterres condemned the Pahalgam terror attack and expressed his concerns over the fallout between the two nations. He also offered support in de-escalation efforts

- EAM Jaishankar hailed Guterres’ condemnation of the terror attack, asserting that India was resolved that the perpetrators, planners and backers of this attack are brought to justice

- Amid signals of a big response by India, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat met PM Modi at the latter’s residence. This meeting followed PM Modi’s crucial deliberation with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, NSA Ajit Doval, CDS and chiefs of Armed Forces  

- National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday extended his support to the centre, saying that the PM was free to do whatever he wanted in response to the Pahalgam attack

- According to sources cited by News 18, PM Modi has also convened a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Wednesday. This will be the second consecutive CCS meeting after the Pahalgam attack
