After the gruesome terrorist attack in the Baisaran alley of Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22, the government and the Indian Army have intensified efforts to tighten the noose around the terrorists and their biggest patron, Pakistan. Anticipations of a large-scale response, supposedly militarily, are running high as in the surgical strike and Balakot airstrike. Meanwhile, there have been certain actions taken by at the governmental level as well as the military level to hit both terrorists in the valley and Islamabad.

Developments in the aftermath- 10 points

1. India has cancelled the short-term visas of Pakistani nationals and asked them to leave by April 27. Pakistani nationals are therefore leaving India. UP DGP Prashant Kumar has said that all but one have been deported to their home country. Meanwhile, there are many families who have been facing difficulties after the announcements, especially couples in cross-border marriages.

2. Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a high-level meeting after the government decided on diplomatic actions and called all state CMs to identify Pakistani nationals and send them back.

3. Security forces have intensified the raids across Jammu and Kashmir in the aftermath of the heinous attack, where 26 people were killed based on their Hindu religious identity. As per the news agency PTI, over 60 raids have been conducted in the UT after the attack. To monitor suspicious movement, forces have deployed mobile vehicle checkpoints in Anantnag.

4. In a major countermeasure, India suspended the Indus Water Treaty under which it, for the time being, holds no obligation to share the data and follow other stipulations of the decades-old pact. The western rivers- Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab- are now completely accessible to India. It can now intensify its dam projects.

5. Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil reaffirmed the government's stance and said that not a single drop of water will flow into Pakistan.

6. The houses of six terrorists and their associates have been razed to the ground in Jammu and Kashmir. There are reports that some of the houses got destroyed after bombs kept inside the houses exploded. The houses mostly belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba commanders.

7. The Integrated checkpost on the Attari border was closed, and all diplomatic channels were shut. The visas under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme were also cancelled.

8. The Border Security Force (BSF) has ramped up security along the international border in Rajasthan. BSF is closely working with the local police, army, and intelligence agencies, the Money Control reported. The joint operations are being conducted, and multiple checkpoints have also been set up in different areas to augment the security.

9. India appropriately retaliated to late-night and early-hour ceasefire violations for three consecutive days on April 25, 26, and 27.

10. Along with Pakistani nationals, a crackdown has also started on illegal Bangladeshi nationals. In Gujarat alone, over 1,000 illegal Bangladeshi nationals were detained by the police.
