Pahalgam Terror: Following the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi has been placed on high alert, with police closely monitoring tourist destinations and other key areas. This security measure comes after the brutal attack on Tuesday, where militants, linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, opened fire on a group of tourists in one of the worst assaults in recent memory.
The Resistance Front (TRF), a Lashkar offshoot, has claimed responsibility for the attack, which resulted in the deaths of at least 28 people, including foreign nationals, and left several others injured. Eyewitnesses reported that two to three gunmen, dressed in military fatigues, indiscriminately fired at tourists enjoying the Baisaran Meadows, a popular spot for horseback riding.
In response, security forces swiftly deployed to the scene, launching a large-scale operation to capture the terrorists. Disturbing videos from the aftermath showed the victims, many of them bloodied and motionless, as their loved ones searched frantically for them.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attack as “an abomination,” describing it as one of the most devastating assaults on civilians in recent years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was in Saudi Arabia for a two-day visit, held a call with Home Minister Amit Shah to assess the situation. Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance, visiting India at the time, also expressed his condolences to the victims of the attack.
US Vice President JD Vance tweets, "Usha and I extend our condolences to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India.
