The Border Security Force (BSF) on Thursday shot and killed a Pakistani national who tried to illegally cross the International Border (IB) into Indian territory in Punjab’s Ferozepur sector. The intruder was seen crossing the IB and approaching the security fence under darkness, according to a BSF statement. When challenged by BSF personnel, he ignored the warning and continued to move forward, leading the troops to open fire. The intruder was shot dead on the spot.

The incident occurred amid heightened security and vigilance along the India-Pakistan border, following recent cross-border missile strikes by Indian forces targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. 

The Airstrike (Operation Sindoor), was carried out in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians.

"He was fired upon by vigilant BSF troops after a challenge in the Ferozpur sector. After daybreak the body was handed over to the police."

He was later taken to the Emergency Medical Officer at Ferozepur Government Hospital, where Dr. Manpreet Singh stated, “The body of an unknown person has been brought here by the police.”

At the same time, because of the India-Pakistan tension all schools in six border districts of Punjab get closed on Thursday and all police officers' leave got canceled and Punjab border is on high alert including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir. The schools were closed in Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran districts, they said.

Tensions escalated after the Indian armed forces conducted missile strikes early Wednesday on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The strikes targeted key locations, including the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold in Bahawalpur and the Lashkar-e-Taiba base in Muridke, in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir.
