The Indian Army on Thursday said Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small-arms fire across the Line of Control opposite Kupwara, Uri and Akhnoor in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The violation of the ceasefire was responded proportionately, it added. The LoC witnessed a ceasefire violation from Pakistan for the seventh day in a row. The series of ceasefire incidents were taking place amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

Pakistan violates ceasefire on International Border in Jammu

Earlier, Pakistani troops on Wednesday resorted to unprovoked firing on the International Border (IB) in the Jammu district.

The Defence ministry spokesman said, "Further to the previous update about 29-30 April (Night), unprovoked small arms firing by Pakistan Army was also reported from their posts across the LoC in Baramulla and Kupwara districts, as well as across the International Border in the Pargwal Sector."

"Indian Army troops responded appropriately," the Army spokesman said.

The Pakistan Army also had already initiated unprovoked firing on the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday for the sixth consecutive day.

"During the night of 29-30 April 2025, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small-arms fire across the LoC opposite the Naushera, Sunderbani and Akhnoor sectors in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir," the Indian Army said.

Ceasefire Violated After 7-8 Years, We Are On High Alert: Villagers

Meanwhile, villagers living near the LoC were on "high alert". They said they were witnessing ceasefire violations nearly after 7-8 years.

In the Akhnoor region's Pargwal sector, villagers reported hearing several rounds of gunfire late at night.

"About 10 to 12 rounds were fired last night. The Indian Army also retaliated. This kind of ceasefire violation is happening after 7-8 years," said Ankur Singh, a resident of Pargwal, speaking to ANI.

He added, "We are used to all of this, but we are on high alert right now."

Another local Raju Singh, a local says "3-4 rounds were fired last night at around 8:30-9 PM. We were working in our farms when we got a call to stop everything and return back to our homes. After that nothing happened..."
