Pandit Laxmikant Mathuranath Dixit, Varanasi seer and a renowned Vedic scholar who led the priests at the Pran-Pratishtha ceremony of Ram Lalla at Ram Temple in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya, died at the age of 86 on Saturday. Dixit left for heavenly abode at 6:45 AM. A dedicated sage towards Hinduism, Dixit was well-known for his leadership skills. He was a Vedic 'karmkand' (ritualism) scholar. He was chosen to lead a team of 121 scholars from all branches of the Vedas for the Ramlalla Pran Pratishtha ceremony.
He was reportedly a descendant of the distinguished Kashi scholar Gaga Bhatt from the 17th century. Gaga Bhatt led the coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj approximately 350 years ago, in 1674.
PM Modi Expresses Grief
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed profound sorrow over the demise of Pandit Laxmikant Mathuranath Dixit. PM recollected his memories with the seer and called him "a renowned man of the scholarly tradition of Kashi."

“I received the sad news of the demise of the country’s eminent scholar and Yajurveda teacher of Sangveda Vidyalaya, Lakshmikant Dixit ji. Dixit Ji was a renowned man of the scholarly tradition of Kashi. I got his company on the inauguration day of Kashi Vishwanath Dham and Ram temple. His demise is an irreparable loss for the society,” PM Modi wrote in an X post on Saturday.
CM Yogi Condoles Dixit's Death
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expressed grief over his demise, saying his passing is an irreplaceable loss to the spiritual and literary world.
“The passing of the eminent scholar from Kashi and the chief priest of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Pran Pratishtha, Vedmurti Acharya Shri Lakshmikant Dixit Ji, is an irreplaceable loss to the spiritual and literary world.”
“I pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant the departed soul a place at his lotus feet and to give his disciples and followers the strength to bear this grief,” he added.
