Kolkata Law Student Rape Case: Months after Kolkata RG Kar doctor's rape and murder case, the city, which is known as the cultural capital of India, is once again on the boil over a rape incident in which a 24-year-old law student was raped on premises of the college. The main accused 'Manojit Mishra' is no less than a 'Bollywood villain'. He holds all the features of a filmy 'goon', despite being highly educated. He was a lawyer but had no respect for the law due to his political connection.

Manojit's Wall Graffiti Inside The Kolkata Law College

His pictures with some biggies of the ruling Trinamool Congress are doing round on social media. A wall graffiti inside the Kolkata Law College is a testimonial of his influence on the premises of the college, despite he left the educational institution years ago. The graffiti reads - "Manojit dada is in our hearts (Team MM)", reports NDTV.

Manojit's Political Connection

According to the NDTV report, Manojit helmed the college unit of Trinamool College Chhatra Parishad (TMC's youth wing), since 2017. However, the ruling party claimed that the rape accused has no links with the party, asserting the strictest punishment.

Manojit Called As 'Mango'

Manojit, called as 'Mango' by his supporters, had a deep influence among the teachers, staff and students. His nickname is 'Papai'. The college management allegedly remained in fear of his political connection and never took any action against him despite several complaints of harassment and molestation in the past.

Manojit's Family Background

Manojit is the son of a priest at Kalighat, Robin Mishra. His mother is a neurology patient. His father claimed that his family broke off all ties with him four years ago due to political controversies around him. However, Manojit stays near his family's home and keeps visiting occasionally. His father regretted that he worked really hard to give his son a higher education but, he brought a bad name to the family. Neighbours said he has been a troublemaker and often seen involved in the brawl.

Will You Marry Me? Manojit's Tagline

Several reports suggest that Manojit was a habitual offender. A TOI report stated that his oft-used tagline on campus was 'tui amay biye korbi?' - Will you marry me?. The rape victim was also approached by him with the same tagline - 'will you marry me?'

Kolkata Police Arrest 4th Accused In Rape Case

Meanwhile, a security guard of a law college here was arrested on Saturday in connection with the alleged gang rape of a first-year student of the institute earlier last week, even as the Kolkata Police formed a SIT to probe the case, amidst intensifying public protests over the incident.

The total number of arrests has now reached four in the crime that took place inside the guard's room on the South Calcutta Law College premises on June 25, an officer said.

The city police formed a nine-member special investigation team (SIT), led by an assistant commissioner rank officer, to probe the case, even as outrage over the incident continued to grow.
