A 1989 batch IPS officer of the Punjab cadre, Parag Jain, has been appointed as the news chief of India’s external intelligence agency, the Research & Analysis Wing (RAW). Jain will assume the chair on July 1, as the tenure of the current RAW chief Ravi Sinha concludes on Jun 30. Jain will be serving in the position for two years as he has been appointed for a fixed tenure, news agency ANI reported.
Parag Jain's Role In Operation Sindoor
Along with serving the country in several positions, Jain has recently played a critical role in enabling precision strikes during Operation Sindoor. Intelligence inputs received under his leadership facilitated precise, on-point military action against Pakistan.
According to insiders familiar with the details of the operation Sindoor, years of groundwork, painstaking network building, made such a detailed and error-free military operation possible, India Today reported. Jain’s extensive experience on the ground in Jammu and Kashmir is said to have helped Jain during the operation.
Currently heading the aviation research centre, which played a critical role in Operation Sindoor, Jain has previously served as SSP, Chandigarh and DIG Ludhiana.
Jain has also been posted in Jammu and Kashmir, where he played an important role in the Centre’s counter-terrorism strategy in the valley. Jain was posted in Jammu and Kashmir during the abrogation of Article 370 and the operation Balakot.
Parag Jian is known as a ‘super sleuth’ within intelligence circles. He is lauded for his ability to combine human intelligence (HUMINT) with technical intelligence (TECHINT), a mix that officials say has been crucial to several high-stakes operations. Senior officials define him as methodical and discreet, who has held several key roles throughout his career.
