Paris Olympics 2024: In a major boost for India’s star wrestler Vinesh Phogat, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has accepted her plea regarding her disqualification from the Paris Olympics. The hearing is likely to begin around 9:30 am Paris time, which is around 1 pm IST on August 9 (Friday). The interim verdict can be expected about an hour later. The development comes after Phogat was disqualified from the women’s 50 kg event in the Paris Olympics after being found overweight hours before her gold medal fight against American Sarah Hildebrandt.

Following her disqualification from the Paris Olympics 2024, Vinesh appealed that she should be awarded a joint silver medal. Yusneylis Guzman Lopez of Cuba, who received a major setback from Vinesh in the semi-finals, was elevated to the final. However, Guzman lost to Hildebrandt by 0-3 as she became the fourth US woman to win a wrestling gold medal.
