He said that Operation Sindoor lasted 22 minutes. Then he said the most shocking thing - at 1.35, we called Pakistan and told them that we have hit non-military targets and we do not want escalation," Rahul Gandhi said.

Rajya Sabha today witnessed a heated exchange between LoP Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the House JP Nadda. As Mallikarjun Kharge was speaking during the Operation Sindoor debate and targeted PM Modi over the Pahalgam attack and his election campaign a day after the terrorist attack killing 26, JP Nadda interjected and said, "Mallikarjun Kharge ji is a very senior leader but how he had commented on the PM. You are so indulged in your party that you lost your mental balance and used such words for the Prime Minister.",

"The focus for our diplomacy was the UN Security Council. The challenge for us was that at this particular point, Pakistan is a member of the Security Council and we are not. Our goals in the Security Council were two: 1- to get an endorsement from the Security Council of the need for accountability, and 2- to bring to justice those who perpetrated this attack. I am glad to say that if you look at the Security Council statement of 25th April, the members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist attack. They affirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security. And most importantly, the Council underlined the need to hold the perpetrators, organisers, financers and sponsors of this reprehensible act of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice," S Jaishnakar said.

EAM S Jaishankar, addressing Lok Sabha on Operation Sindoor, said, "It was important to send a clear, strong and resolute message after the Pahalgam attack. Our red lines had been crossed. And we had to make it very apparent that there would be serious consequences as a result. The first step, which was taken, was that a meeting of the Cabinet Committee of Security took place on 23rd April. That meeting decided that-

1. The Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 will be held in abeyance with immediate effect until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably abjures its support for cross-border terrorism.

2. The Integrated Check Post Attari would be closed with immediate effect.

3. Pakistani nationals who are travelling under SARC visa exemption scheme will no longer be allowed to do that.

4. The Defence, Naval and Air advisors of the Pakistani High Commission would be declared Persona non grata

5. The overall strength of the High Commission would be brought down to 30 from the number of 55.",

Rajya Sabha proceedings got adjourned for the day over Bihar SIR issue as the opposition MPs continued the ruckus. 

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi stated that while the defence minister spoke about a lot of things, he did not answer how the terrorists were able to kill the tourists. "Rajnath Singh ji gave a lot of information, but as Defence Minister, he never mentioned how terrorists from Pakistan reached Pahalgam and killed 26 people..It is our duty to ask questions in the interest of the nation," Gogoi stated.,

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, while quoting Bhagwat Geeta, stated that India responded to Pakistan in the language it deserved. "...'शठे शाठ्यं समाचरेत्' (Deal with a knave in his own way)... We have learnt from Lord Krishna that in the end, one needs to pick the Sudarshan Chakra to protect 'dharma'. We saw the 2006 Parliament attack, 2008 Mumbai attacks- and now we have said enough is enough, and picked the Sudarshan Chakra," Singh stated.

"Few members of the Opposition have been asking how many of our aircraft were shot down? I feel their question does not adequately represent our national sentiments. They have not asked us how many enemy aircraft our Armed Forces shot down. If they must ask a question, it should be whether India destroyed terrorist bases, and the answer to that is, yes. If you have a question to ask, it should be whether the Operation Sindoor was a success. The answer is yes. Were terror heads destroyed? Yes. If you have a question to ask, ask this: Were any of our brave soldiers harmed in this operation? The answer is, no, none of our soldiers were harmed," said Rajnath Singh.,

"Our government has also made numerous efforts to establish peace with Pakistan. But later, through the 2016 surgical strike, the 2019 Balakot air strike, and the 2025 Operation Sindoor, we have adopted a different path to establish peace. The stand of the Narendra Modi government is clear - talks and terror cannot go together. If we know how to make efforts for peace, we also know how to speak and explain in the language that the vicious understand," said Rajnath Singh in Lok Sabha.

"This Operation was launched to serve justice to those families who lost loved ones in the terror attack. Crossing the border or capturing territory was not the objective of Operation Sindoor. The politico-military aim of launching Operation Sindoor was to eliminate those terror nurseries that Pakistan had nurtured for many years. And that is why the armed forces were given complete freedom to choose their targets. The aim was not to start a war, but to force the adversary to bow down," said Rajnath Singh.,

"On 10th May, when the Indian Air Force struck hard at multiple airfields in Pakistan, Pakistan admitted defeat and offered to cease hostilities. They spoke to our DGMO and asked to stop. This offer was accepted with the caveat that this Operation has only been paused. If any misadventure occurs from Pakistan's side in the future, this Operation will be resumed," said Rajnath Singh.,

"India paused its action because the predecided political and military objectives were achieved. Saying that this operation was paused under any pressure is baseless and absolutely wrong. In my political life, I have always tried not to speak lies ever," said Rajnath Singh in Lok Sabha.,

"I am proud to say that our Air Defence system, Counter-Drone system, and electronic equipment completely foiled this attack by Pakistan. Pakistan could not hit any of our targets, and none of our important assets were damaged. Our security arrangements were impregnable, and every attack was thwarted. S-400, Akash Missile system, Air Defence guns proved to be very useful and completely foiled this attack by Pakistan," said Rajnath Singh.

"Our actions were entirely in self-defence, neither provocative nor expansionist. Yet, on May 10, 2025, at approximately 1:30 AM, Pakistan launched a large-scale attack on India using missiles, drones, rockets, and other long-range weapons," said Rajnath Singh.

"The well-coordinated strikes carried out by our Armed Forces hit 9 terrorist infrastructure targets with precision. In this military operation, it is estimated that over a hundred terrorists, their trainers, handlers, and associates were killed. Most of these were linked to terrorist organizations such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen," said Rajnath Singh in Lok Sabha.,

"Soon after Pahalgam attack, our Armed Forces took action and hit with precision the nine terrorist infra sites in which more than 100 terorrists, their trainers and handlers were targeted. The entire operation was concluded within 22 minutes," says Rajnath Singh.

Beginning his address, Defence Minister Rajnath paid tributes to the Indian Army soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation during Operation Sindoor against Pak-based terror groups in May. "I pay my tributes to the brave soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for the nation.",

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday initiated the debate on Operation Sindoor in Lok Sabha, after the house proceedings witnessed two adjournments amid ruckus by the opposition benches who demanded a discussion on the Bihar SIR after Op Sindoor discussions. 

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urges Opposition MPs to let the discussion on Operation Sindoor get underway. As Opposition MPs continue to raise their demands in the House, the Speaker adjourns the House till 2 PM. He says, "I  request you (Opposition MPs) to let the discussion on Operation Sindoor take place in the House."

"Opposition has made a U-turn. This will not work. After half an hour, the Parliament proceedings will resume. The Defence Minister will open the debate. I urge everyone to listen to him. No Opposition party should speak the language of Pakistan," says Kiren Rijiju.,

On Lok Sabha adjourned before the commencement of the discussion on Operation Sindoor, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju says, "Why are the Congress and Opposition now running away from discussion on Operation Sindoor?..."

"We were all ready for the discussion. 10 minutes before the discussion had to start, the Opposition came up with their agenda that the government should give a line of commitment that, after this, the issue of SIR would be discussed. To bring in a condition just 10 minutes before the discussion is not right.",

Speaker Om Birla slammed the opposition MPs for showing posters inside the house. He asked the MPs if they want a discussion on Operation Sindoor or not.

"First, you ask for a debate on Operation Sindoor, then in the House, you come into the Well of the House. If you want to participate in a discussion, please take your seats. Do you want a discussion on Operation Sindoor or not?...Should I adjourn the House?" Birla asked.

The proceedings of Rajya Sabha got adjourned till 2 pm amid continuous uproar from the opposition MPs.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi stated that Chidambaram gave a clean chit to Pakistan. "P Chidambaram, who was the former Home Minister, has given a clean chit to Pakistan. The same people, when they were in power, used to say that there is no hand of Pakistan. The former Home Minister and former Finance Minister should realise that such statements embolden Pakistan's stand," Joshi was quoted as saying by ANI.,
