Parliament Session 2024: The oath-taking ceremony for members of the newly elected 18th Lok Sabha continued for a second day on Tuesday. As Samajwadi Party leader and MP-elect from Faizabad, the parliamentary seat in Uttar Pradesh that covers the temple town of Ayodhya, rose to take the oath, chants of 'Jai Shri Ram', understood to have been raised by Opposition MPs, echoed the House.
At the end of his oath, Prasad said, "Long live the Constitution! Long live Netaji (Late Mulayam Singh Yadav)! Long live Veerangana Uda Devi! Long live Maharaja Bijli Pasi! Long live Akhilesh Yadav (SP chief)! Long live PDA (Pichre-Dalit-Alpasankhyak)! Long Live Babasahab Bhimrao Ambedkar! Long live his Constitution!"

A member was also heard shouting "Jai Awadhesh". Earlier, on Monday, Prasad had said, " I will live up to the expectations of god-like voters of Faizabad...Our agendas will be decided now...we have good plans for Ayodhya." His victory from Faizabad in the recently held Lok Sabha election translated into a big electoral let-down for the BJP as the fight in the constituency was deemed a prestige battle for the saffron party following the construction of the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
Prasad dislodged BJP's Lallu Singh to become Faizabad's latest Lok Sabha representative. The SP put up an impressive show in UP by winning 37 out of the 80 Lok Sabha seats across the state in this year's general elections. Meanwhile, the Congress, SP's INDIA bloc ally, won six seats throughout the state. On the other hand, the BJP managed victory on 33 Lok Sabha seats across UP.
