Parliament Session 2024 July 1 HIGHLIGHTS: Parliament on Monday witnessed a heated exchange on the alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2024 exam result and on several issues including paper leaks, Agniveer scheme, new criminal laws that come into force today when both houses, Rajya Sabha (upper house) and Lok Sabha (lower house), reconvened today. Several opposition MPs including Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi protested outside the Parliament building against the misuse of central agencies including the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) by the ruling BJP.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Manish Tewari has moved an adjournment motion to discuss the three new criminal laws, which are enacted today. The three new criminal laws which come into effect today include The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. These laws replace the decades-old British-era Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and the Indian Evidence Act.
BJP MP Anurag Thakur is also set to initiate the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President's Address in Lok Sabha today. This is the first session of Parliament after the constitution of the 18th Lok Sabha.

Lok Sabha on Monday witnessed chaos after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (and its ideological mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) talk about violence and hatred. Amit Shah Speaks On Three New Criminal Laws
Speaking on the three new criminal laws that come into force today, Union Home Miniseter Amit Shah says, “We have decided the priority of sections and chapters in line with the spirit of our Constitution. The first priority has been given to (the chapters on) crimes against women and children. I believe that this was needed to be done much earlier. An entire chapter with 35 sections and 13 provisions has been added. Now, gangrape will attract 20-year imprisonment or life imprisonment, rape of a minor will attract death penalty, a separate crime has been defined for sexual exploitation by hiding one's identity or making false promises.”,

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday targeted the BJP over paper leaks and demanded the Supreme Court to monitor the issue of the paper leak. “BJP leaders’ names were mentioned in paper leaks, first, the Education Minister denied any leak and gave a clean chit to the NTA.
