Parliament Smoking Row: Days after BJP MP Anurag Thakur urged the Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla to take action against a TMC MP for allegedly smoking e-cigarette in the House, the ruling party has shared a video, revealing that the accused was Durgapur MP Kirti Azad. While sharing the purported video on X (formerly Twitter), BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya stated that the act was "unacceptable", adding that the "rules held no meaning" for people like Azad. The BJP leader further asked West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee to issue a clarification on the row. In his complaint, Thakur stated that the accused leader belonged to TMC;however, he did not mention any name.

'Mamata Banerjee Must Clarify'

While sharing the video, Malviya stated that while smoking is not illegal, using the e-cigarette in parliament is "unacceptable". “The TMC MP accused by BJP MP Anurag Thakur of vaping inside Parliament is none other than Kirti Azad. For people like him, rules and laws clearly hold no meaning. Just imagine the audacity, hiding an e-cigarette in his palm while in the House! Smoking may not be illegal, but using it in Parliament is entirely unacceptable. Mamata Banerjee must clarify on her MP’s misconduct," Malviya stated in his post.

Apart from this, BJP leader Pradeep Bhandari also slammed Azad by stating that smoking inside the parliament was an "insult of Temple of Democracy". “TMC MP KIRTI AZAD VIDEO VAPING INSIDE PARLIAMENT. This is a crime! This is an insult of Temple of Democracy! Mamata Banerjee should respond- What example are her MPs setting in front of people of India?" Bhanddari stated in his post.

Earlier on December 12, in his letter to Om Birla, Anurag Thakur urged him to take a strict action against the TMC MP by claiming that the MPs present in the house clearly saw him smoking.
