PM Modi Aircraft Snag: Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Delhi from Jharkhand's Deoghar in another aircraft after the Indian Air Force plane he was using on Friday developed a technical snag, officials cited by news agency PTI said. According to the officials, PM Modi remained stranded in Deoghar for more than an hour due to the malfunction.
As per his itinerary, the Prime Minister was supposed to return to Delhi after attending an event in Bihar's Jamui, which is around 80 km from Deoghar, the officials said. The function commemorated the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda. According to the officials, a 'no flying zone' was declared in the region's airspace after PM Modi's special plane was unable to take off from the airport in Deoghar.
The development regarding the glitch in PM Modi's special plane was reported shortly after it surfaced that senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi's helicopter had to wait around 45 minutes before taking off from Jharkhand's Godda as it lacked a clearance from the Air Traffic Control (ATC).
Both PM Modi and Rahul are among the star campaigners of their respective parties for the 2024 Jharkhand Assembly election, the first round of voting for which took place on Wednesday (November 13). The second and last round of polling is scheduled for November 20.
While PM Modi has been intensely canvassing for BJP candidates, Rahul has had a relatively mild involvement in campaign activities in Jharkhand, ostensibly due to the recently held Lok Sabha by-poll in Wayanad. The voting in Wayanad marked Rahul's sister and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi's electoral debut.
The Wayanad seat in Lok Sabha was vacated by Rahul when he chose to retain his Lok Sabha membership from Raebareli. He had emerged victorious on both seats in the Lok Sabha election held this year.
