Jammu & Kashmir News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday to inquire about his health following an incident during a rally in Jammu and Kashmir. Kharge fell ill while addressing a gathering in the Jasrota area of Kathua district.

According to Congress general secretary Gulam Ahmed Mir, Kharge felt uneasy and dizzy during his speech. His colleagues quickly assisted him, allowing him to sit down and rest for a moment. After some time, Kharge resumed speaking and continued to criticise the Prime Minister, stating, “We will fight to restore statehood. I am 83 years old and I won’t die so soon. I will remain active until PM Modi is removed from power.”

Kharge’s son, Priyank Kharge, a minister in the Karnataka government, later updated the public on social media platform X. He stated that his father had been examined by medical professionals and was doing well, despite experiencing slightly low blood pressure.

As the political climate heats up in Jammu and Kashmir, campaigning for the third phase of elections concluded on Sunday. Voting is scheduled for October 1, following the first and second phases held on September 18 and September 25, respectively. The elections cover six districts, including Ganderbal, Budgam, Srinagar, Rajouri, Reasi and Poonch. Counting of votes will take place on October 8.

In separate news, Twenty-three government employees in Jammu and Kashmir were suspended and six ad-hoc and casual labourers dismissed for participating in election campaigning, violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). Additionally, 20 employees were transferred for alleged bias. The final phase of the Assembly Elections, covering 40 constituencies, concludes on October 1, with 415 candidates, including key political figures, in the fray.
