Jammu And Kashmir News:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a mega rally in Doda on Saturday to kickstart BJP's Jammu and Kashmir campaign, amid tight security arrangements. Notably, this would be the first visit by any Indian PM to Doda in the last 42 years. Security forces have laid down a multi-layer security arrangement, covering the twin districts of Doda and Kishtwar, for the smooth conduct of the mega event, news agency PTI reported.

Once dreaded for terrorist attacks, Doda has made significant progress towards peace, coming out slowly from the shadow militancy. The last visit by any Prime Minister to Doda came in 1982, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, who was in the Samba to oversee the preparation of the visit, said on Friday.

"Prime Minister Modi will hold his first election meeting in Doda tomorrow. This will be a significant event as it marks the first visit of any Prime Minister to Doda in 42 years. The last prime ministerial visit to Doda was in 1982," said Union Coal and Mines Minister and BJP election in-charge for Jammu & Kashmir, G Kishan Reddy.

BJP Eyes Eight Assembly Seats In Region

With Prime Minister Modi's historic rally, the Bharatiya Janata Party seeks to woo the voters in eight assembly constituencies across three districts - Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban, in Jammu and Kashmir. The last rally by PM Modi in the region came during the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, when he addressed a large gathering in neighbouring Kishtwar.

Since then, the people of Doda have been eagerly waiting to see and hear the Prime Minister, a leader said.

Jammu And Kashmir Polls In Three Phases

BJP is contesting all 43 Assembly seats in the Jammu division. Previously, the BJP held 25 seats in the J&K Assembly. The upcoming elections will take place in three phases: on September 18, September 25, and October 1, with the vote counting scheduled for October 8. This marks the first Assembly election in J&K in a decade and the first since the removal of Articles 370 and 35A.
